What gives us hope in 2026
Whenever we enter a new year, we tend to make resolutions, set new goals, and reassess our values – all in the pursuit of a fresh new start that can infuse our lives with a bit of hope and positivity. This year, and over the last two years or more, talking about hope has become a lot harder against a backdrop of a world being burnt to the ground by elites.

Our litigation work: let’s talk about money
Money is an important topic: after all, our partners need to be able to engage in litigation work sustainably, and over a long period of time. Our vision for community-driven litigation
At Systemic Justice, we believe that communities should be leading on the litigation campaigns that concern them, and that they should be able to access justice on their own terms. This is more than strategic litigation as we know it, or even “community-centred” litigation: we are building a model of community-driven litigation. What does that entail?

A tool in the toolbox: putting litigation at the service of communities
On 13 November, we launched our very first community toolkit for change, a series of resources on how communities can leverage the courts for their causes and campaigns. The toolkit seeks to demystify and deconstruct how the law and litigation can be used strategically to push for change on communities’ own terms, and includes a guide for legal action, a glossary of essential legal terms, and a conversation starter for communities to begin exploring the potential of litigation in their own spaces.

A Right, Not a Privilege: Accessing Justice on Communities’ Own Terms
What can we do to empower those who are frequently marginalised within or shut out from legal systems to access justice and vindicate their rights? On 12 and 13 May, we shared online space with 14 activists from across Europe to reflect (with the help of 3 interpreter teams!) on what is standing in the way of marginalised communities in accessing justice, and to identify opportunities for action to change this.
